Welcome to my little corner of the Internet!
My name is Nick. I’m a husband, father of four, almost certified as a Certified General Accountant, and a bit of a theology buff.
In fact, most of this blog will be about theological issues. I think anyone who calls himself or herself a Christian should know why they believe what it is they believe. I live in a so-called Bible Belt in southern Manitoba , where it seems that everyone calls themselves a Christian. There is a church on almost every corner, and yet it is my conviction that the gospel needs to be clearly proclaimed here and that we need to evaluate whether what we believe is really consistent with the Bible.
There is a range of flavours to our churches. We have Charismatic/Pentecostal/Word of Faith flavoured churches, but we also have ultra-conservative Mennonite churches. I grew up in an Old Colony Mennonite church, but now find myself most recently attending an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church . I say “most recently attending” because I do not know whether we will continue to attend here.
Many of you know that there is some dissention at the Pembina Valley Baptist Church (PVBC), and some dissatisfaction with Pastor Sullivant there. I’m thinking that this blog will not address the issues with Pastor and his daughter Laura, or the other people who rightly or wrongly feel they have been mistreated there, except to the extent that this comes up because of doctrinal issues. There are at least two other blogs where this is happening, and I welcome someone to link to them if they see fit.
Some of the posts here will be ones that might make local visitors uncomfortable at first. I humbly request that you hear me out and ask questions as appropriate. I believe my theology has become much more biblical, with fewer contradictions and unanswered questions than I had before. I will give the standard disclaimer that I’m not perfect, and of course I’m still learning and growing by God’s grace. So stay tuned!
Hmmm... an interesting article! I am surprised that you are still indesicive about attending the PVBC after reading these blogs. This definitely needs to be sorted out.
